Charges pending after Tamaqua pedestrian struck

A Tamaqua driver will face charges after allegedly striking a pedestrian and leaving the scene.

According to the police report, Randy Loar, 62, of 30 N. Nescopec St., was driving a 1998 Ford Escort on Sunday when the car struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk. A witness told police Loar was turning west onto Broad Street from Center Street at the time.The victim was thrown up onto the hood, smashing the car windshield with her head, said police.The witness, who copied the car’s license plate number, said Loar and a passenger got out of the car and began to yell at the victim, who began to walk away. The witness said Loar appeared to be intoxicated.Police traced the car to Loar, who told police he had planned to call them but didn’t because the victim said she was OK. Police noticed an odor of alcohol coming from Loar, who admitted to drinking five or six beers, according to the police report.Loar was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center East, Pottsville, for a blood draw.Charges will be filed.
