Monroe crash leads to arrest for Megan's Law violation

The investigation of a rollover crash led to the arrest of the driver for a Megan's Law violation.

State police at Lehighton responded to a crash at 9:25 a.m. on Thursday along Owl Hollow Drive in Ross Township, Monroe County.Troopers said Andrew W. Hancharik Jr., 73, of Galeton, was driving a 2003 Buick Century southbound and attempting to negotiate a downhill left-hand curve. At the time he was speeding and failed to negotiate the curve.The car went onto the berm of the southbound shoulder and hit the guide rail on the passenger side. The car went back on the road. Hancharik regained control and continued to speed as he approached a right-hand curve.As he approached the curve his car began to fishtail and he lost control. The car went onto the berm again and spun a clockwise turn before striking a tree with the driver's side front end. The Buick rolled onto its roof and struck a fence with the front end.Hancharik was taken by West End ambulance to the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, for evaluation. The Buick sustained heavy damages, troopers said.Troopers learned that Hancharik is a Megan's laws offender and that his vehicle was not registered under the provisions of his sexual offender registration requirements.He was placed under arrest for failure to comply with registration of sexual offenders requirements. He was arraigned on the charge and is currently an inmate in the county prison in Snydersville.
