Couple drove ATVs while drunk

A Montgomery County couple charged with operating all terrain vehicles while drunk, had their cases heard in Carbon County court on Thursday.

One was placed in a special probation program and the other pleaded guilty.Jayne Marie Hupchick, 52, and her husband, John Joseph Hupchick, 50, of Glen Mills, appeared before Judge Steven R. Serfass on driving under the influence and related counts.The two were arrested on Aug. 2, 2015, by state police at Fern Ridge.Troopers responded to an area along Lindsey Mews in Penn Forest Township for a report of an ATV crash. On scene troopers learned that the couple were operating ATVs when John Hupchick crashed his vehicle.His wife was traveling ahead of him at the time.Troopers said both showed signs of intoxication and were taken for tests. Jayne Hupchick had a 0.19 BAC and her husband a 0.21 BAC. Both were first offenses.John Hupchick was placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program for a year and was assessed $650 for the cost of the program and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and license suspended for 60 days.Jayne Hupchick pleaded guilty to DUI and was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.Each must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
