West Penn Township officials are set to meet with the Department of Environmental Protection to discuss possible action regarding the Andreas Road culvert project.

The township's board of supervisors announced earlier this week that they will have a special meeting at 9:30 a.m. Monday, which will include a site visit to the culvert location.Supervisors said DEP has told the township it needs to pass a 25-year design storm, and that the township should put in a box culvert that would cost between $350,000 to $400,000 because of a pipe underneath the road that's beginning to fail.However, supervisors said that water continues to go down the pipe, and questioned the need for such a costly proposition."I've never seen that pipe full," board Chairman James Dean said. "We want them to come out and please explain why we have to do this."Last month, supervisors held a special meeting and conducted an on-site visit at the culvert.Attending were Dean, along with fellow supervisors Ted Bogosh and Anthony Prudenti, township road master Harvey Singleton and Jeff DeAngelo and Greg Stewart, of Alfred Benesch Engineering, the township's engineering firm.
