Schuylkill seeks recycling, waste bids

Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday agreed to seek bids for electronic material collection and waste tire collection for recycling.

The bids will be accepted in the Controller's office until 3 p.m. Aug. 1. The bids will be opened at the commissioners' work session on Aug. 3, with a tentative bid award at the commissioners' board meeting on Aug. 10.In other matters, commissioners approved Susan Smith and Lisa Mahall of the county Planning Office as representatives on the Northeastern Pennsylvania Metropolitan Planning Organization.The NPMPO handles transportation funding for the county.West Penn Township supervisor Tony Prudenti was named at-large representative, and Tom Yashinsky of Arro Group as alternate at-large representative.The terms run from July 1 to June 30, 2018.Also on Wednesday, commissioners accepted the retirements of two Office of Senior Services employees, fiscal assistant Jerome Piaskowski as of Aug. 12, and volunteer resource coordinator Carol Bowen as of Sept. 9.They also promoted Elyse Amato to 911 center telecommunication 3 at $14.27 an hour, beginning June 20, and hired Denise Burke as a title searcher in the tax claim office at $14.61 an hour beginning June 27.
