Marian's Nahas accepts offer from UMBC

Marian pitcher Joe Nahas has parlayed an oustanding senior season into a baseball scholarship.

Nahas has accepted a Division 1 offer from The University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC).Nahas has been lights out the entire season. He has a 6-1 record with a microscopic 0.40 ERA. He has struck out 82 batters in just 53 innings.Nahas has been even more impressive in the postseason, tossing complete-game shutouts in both the Schuylkill League and District 11 Class A final and allowing just one run in 23 1/3 innings on the mound. During that stretch he has recorded three victories and one save.UMBC pitching coach Liam Bowen attended the Colts’ opening round state playoff game against Christopher Dock and offered Nahas the scholarship immediately following the game. During the contest, Nahas’ fastball was clocked as high as 90 mph on the radar gun.
