A planned wholesale motorcycle business is moving into a former restaurant in Nesquehoning.

Last week, Lyle Augustine and Michael Klinger, corporate partners of M&T Real Estate Holdings and I Buy Power Sports Inc., approached the Nesquehoning Zoning Hearing Board to request a variance limiting the number of people allowed in its business to 15. The reason for the request was because a borough ordinance requires a second handicap-accessible bathroom if there were more than 15 people inside the business, located at 1000 E. Catawissa St., at one time.Klinger told the board during the hearing that the main floor of the building, which is the former Boonie's Restaurant, is the only floor that would be used as a retail space. The basement would be for storage only."We're a wholesale motorcycle operations with a little bit of retail," Klinger said, noting that a second bathroom would limit the retail space on the main floor and would actually create a hazard for people with disabilities due to smaller aisles to walk to the bathroom.The new business partners said they anticipate having a maximum of four employees, and may sell three bikes a week, if that, on the retail side. Most of their business would be wholesale for motorcycles and four wheelers, as well as aftermarket parts.Augustine said they don't expect to have over 15 people in the building at any time.After a brief discussion, Nesquehoning Zoning Hearing Board approved Klinger and Augustine's request for a variance.Augustine said after the meeting that the pair will now apply for an occupancy permit and anticipates opening the business in the next few months.
