It will be Field Day for PVI fifth, fourth and sixth grade respectively, today, Thursday and Friday, weather permitting. If need be, those days will take place, May 23, May 24 and May 25.PV ProudStudents in academics, sports and music will be recognized in several events this week at Pleasant Valley High School.The Pleasant Valley High School will have its Academic Awards banquet at 6 tonight in the new auditorium.Tuesday, the PV Chorus concert will take place at 6 p.m. in the same venue.Next Wednesday, it will be the PVHS Athletic Awards banquet, also at 6 p.m. in the new auditorium.Lions meetThe Western Pocono Lions Club dinner meeting will be held at the Old Mill Pizza in Sciota tonight. Members will gather at 6:30 p.m. to order off the menu. The guest speaker will be Jennifer Pandolfo, Director of Monroe Operations for the Center for Vision Loss.Altar & RosaryOur Lady Queen of Peace Church Altar & Rosary will meet at 6:30 p.m. today in the church's cafe.Zoning hearingEldred Township's Zoning Hearing Board will meet at 7 tonight to hear the Nestle application for water extraction at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company 597 Kunkletown Road, Kunkletown.Little LeagueThursday is the monthly West End Little League meeting at 8 p.m. at the Chestnuthill Park Building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville. Available board positions will be discussed. Current leadership is encouraging anyone who is interested in joining the board, is curious about what board positions are available, or is just testing the waters to see if able to help in any way to come to this meeting.Many positions are opening up with varied responsibilities and time commitments.Seniors menuThe West End group of the Monroe County Seniors will meet in Zion Lutheran's Fellowship Hall Friday and next Wednesday. The menus are roast turkey and Yankee pot roast respectively.For meal reservations, call the site manager at 570-242-6770 or 570-420-3735 by 11 a.m. the day before The suggested meal donation is $2.The Monroe County Area Agency on Aging will be closed on May 30 for Memorial Day.Zion SeniorsThe Zion's Seniors group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the church's Fellowship Hall. Attendees are reminded to bring a sandwich. Some beverages are provided.Four blood drivesThe American Red Cross will be holding three blood drives in the area this week. The first is from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Park on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.On Monday from 2-6 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Appenzell, and on Tuesday, from 2-6 p.m. at Effort UMC.Each Wednesday, from noon to 6 p.m., there is a Miller-Keystone blood drive at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.Both appointments and walk-ins are welcome.Community mealsOur Lady Queen of Peace Church hosts several community meals each month. The Thursday supper, by West End Missions, takes place from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. every Thursday.A Sunday supper will be served from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Next Wednesday the lunch is open to all seniors.The meals are in McCawley Hall and there is no charge.Bingo/barbecueThe West End Park and Open Space Commission will host a bingo and barbecue night at the Chestnuthill Township Park on Friday. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and activities begin at 6:30. The evening includes specials, pull tabs, door prizes and refreshments, including hamburgers and hot dogs on a grill with assorted sides. bkozen@ptd.net.Bike for HungerMembers and friends of Salem-St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kresgeville will be headed out to a Bike for Hunger event being held at the Bob Rodale Fitness and Cycling Park in Trexlertown (near Allentown) Saturday.Participants can bike, walk, run or Rollerblade along with church members such as Jeff Hinton or Pastor Scheffey, members of the congregation or others from the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod who are participating, all hoping to help feed the 1.4 billion hungry people in the world.Those who cannot go but want to help in any way can sponsor members from the congregation, especially the youth. Participants leaving from the church will depart at 7:30 a.m. Other area churches may also be involved.Benefit saleThe Chestnuthill Township Historical Society is hosting its fifth annual yard sale fundraiser: Trinkets, Treasures and Treats. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building and Pavilion on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.Archery classThe West End Park and Open Space Commission is having an Intro to archery program from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the West End Regional Park, 578 Evergreen Hollow Road, Saylorsburg. All equipment provided, no experience necessary. It can be a perfect learning situation for the entire family and is part of the Parks for Good Living and GO Get Outdoors PA programs.
