Denna Krammes wanted one thing to be clear Monday night after she was sworn in as Weissport Borough's newest police chief.

She won't take any "nonsense" just because she's a woman."I want to be here for all the residents of the town, but anyone who knows me as a cop knows I don't take the job lightly," Krammes said.Weissport hired her earlier this month at $16 per hour and expects to give her 16-20 hours per week. She replaces Richton Penn, who had been the town's sole police officer since March 16, 2015.Krammes also works for the police departments in West Penn and Ryan townships.Her background also includes full-time work as a police officer in the Harrisburg area and a stint in the U.S. Army."I'm excited to get in here and look into getting some grants for the police department," she said after Monday's meeting."I'm very proactive with traffic enforcement and drug investigations. One thing I will always give is my best effort. I welcome any comments or concerns from residents."Council helped out Krammes Monday by approving a motion allowing her to purchase two polos to wear while on duty. The expenditure is not to exceed $150.The governing body also discussed having the borough police car painted before its newest officer hits the streets, which may take some time."I have a lot of administrative stuff to go over and get done in the office before I get in that car," she said."This is my first time working in Carbon County so I want to contact the communications center and the state police to familiarize myself with their procedures."
