2nd man dies in crash

A Lehighton man has died from injuries sustained in the crash on Route 209 in Franklin Township on May 4.

The Lehigh County Coroner's office said William M. Pomrink, 32, of Lehighton, died early Saturday at Lehigh Valley-Cedar Crest.The crash occurred at 8:51 a.m. May 4 near La Rose's Skating Rink in Lehighton. Pomrink was the driver of a work van that crashed into a county transportation bus.He is the second man to die from the crash. Herbert Farenkoff, 60, was pronounced dead at the scene.Police said Pomrink crossed the center line and struck the bus, which was operated by James Connell, 73, of Jim Thorpe.The van's front end struck the bus to the rear of the driver's area. Franklin Township Fire Company volunteers extricated Pomrink from the van.Pomrink and another passenger in the bus, Regina Brown, 83, also of Kunkletown, were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, for treatment of serious but not life-threatening injuries.Connell was also injured and was taken to a hospital, police said.Debris from the crash struck a vehicle operated by Tiffany Moyer, of Mahoning Mountain Road, Lehighton. She was not injured, police said.The roadway was shutdown due to an extensive fuel spill.The bus is owned by the county but is operated by the Easton Coach Company, contracted by the county to operate the transportation system.The Lehigh County coroner's office and the Franklin Township police department are conducting the investigation.
