The Walnutport Borough's police department has added a fresh face to the roster.

During Thursday's council meeting the board agreed to hire Richard Compton of Danielsville as the newest member of the force.Compton, 23, graduated from the Allentown Police Academy and is eager to get to work.Chief Pete Wayda, officer Jason Nothstein and Mayor Wayne Weidner interviewed Compton earlier in the week and recommended him to the board to fill a part-time position.Walnutport will be Compton's first job in law enforcement.Compton told the board, "I'm just looking to make it in this world and raise my family.""We look for people with people skills because you are the face of the borough," said council President Matthew Newhard."Are you comfortable talking to people?" Newhard asked."Absolutely. I currently work in sales at Auto Zone," Compton said."We always seem to be the ones who train new officers, but part-time people tend to only stay for six months and then take off. Since you're living in Danielsville you're invested in the area. Other than full-time, are you looking to go elsewhere?" Newhard asked."I'm pretty fixed on being in the area," Compton said."I feel as though he'll make a good officer, I'd recommend him," Weidner said.The department currently has three full-time officers and eight part-timers with the addition of Compton."It's a great town to work for," Nothstein said.
