Schuylkill administrator Scarbinsky to retire

Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday accepted the retirement of county administrator Mark Scarbinsky.

Scarbinsky, of Saint Clair, will retire as of June 3 from his $98,452 a year job.Scarbinsky was hired by the county in May 1999 as economic development director, and coordinated the Keystone Opportunity Zone Program for both Schuylkill and Carbon counties. He also managed the county's Community Development Block Grant program and coordinated its involvement with SEDCO and TIDE for all economic development projects, including the Highridge Business Park and TIDE Business Park.He was appointed interim county administrator in July 2009, and county administrator in August 2009.In other matters, commissioners recognized Blue Mountain High School senior Christian Puzzi as the county's 2016 male scholar athlete.Commissioners held their public meeting Wednesday at the high school.They also proclaimed May as "Silver Ribbon Month" in the county. The month is aimed at raising awareness of elder abuse.
