Nesquehoning VFW Auxiliary

The regular monthly meeting of the VFW Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial Post 8008 was held April 10, with President Cheri Santore presiding.

The annual JROTC awards was held on May 11 at Panther Valley High School.The annual Poppy Day weekend will be held at Redner's from May 20-22. The sign-up sheet for the Buddy Poppy King and Queen is available at the Post Home and is open to children or grandchildren of all members, from ages 4 to 12.Delegates to the District Convention, which will begin at 2 p.m. May 14 in Walnutport, are Christa Kattner, Missy Hascher, Mary Arieta, Tony DeMarco and Lewis Hirochek Sr.Alternates are Ellen Driesbach, Corrine Kattner, Anne Paulakovich, Paul Skodacek Sr. and Rob Skodacek.Delegates to the Department Convention, which will be held at Split Rock Lodge in Lake Harmony, are Missy Hascher, Maureen Hirochek and Christa Kattner. Alternates are Mary Arieta, Tony DeMarco and Lewis Hirochek.Delegates to the National Convention, which will be held in South Carolina in July are Maureen Hirochek and Christa Kattner. Alternates are Missy Hascher and Mary Arieta.Donations were made to the Panther Valley Public Library, National President's visit, Department Flag Fund, VFW National Home, Department President's Love Gift, The Panther Valley JROTC project, and gifts for the retiring department secretary and her assistant Sharon McCollough and Bea Laughman.Also approved were donations to post projects.Nomination and election of officers for 2016-2017 were held. Joint Installation of Officers will be held at 7 p.m. May 27.Officers will be: Cheri Santore, president and color bearer; Christa Kattner, senior vice president and secretary; Tony DeMarco, junior vice president; Maureen Hirochek, treasurer and patriotic instructor; Missy Hascher, chaplain and two-year trustee; Holly Reese, conductress; Lewis Hirochek Sr., guard; Mary Arieta, three-year trustee; Anne Paulakovich, one-year trustee; Ellen Driesbach, historian; Amanda Breiner, Hascher, Reese and Paul Skodacek Sr., flag bearers; Ann Adams, musician.Hirochek will serve as installing officer.
