The West End Fire Company was called out 51 times during the past month, according to Eric Hoffman, the fire company's Emergency Management Coordinator.Those calls included: two dwelling/structure fires; five pole/transformer fire, 12 brush fires, seven motor vehicle accidents, six automatic alarms, 14 mutual/automatic aid, and one medical assist.Through April the total calls for the volunteers is 159.The West End Ambulance Association has likewise been busy. A driver's license is required to prove residency in the service area of the communities of Effort, Gilbert, Kunkletown, Kresgeville, Brodheadsville, Saylorsburg, Sciota and Albrightsville.The program is for residents going through emergency or other short term situations that are not eligible for local, county or state programs and is limited to a 12-week lifetime duration per family.Child Safety FairGFWC Western Pocono Women's Club, a service organization in the West End for 40 years, along with the West End Park and Open Space Commission is having a free child safety fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Chestnuthill Park, Route 715, Brodheadsville. The Pennsylvania State Police will fingerprint children, and the West End Fire Company and the Ambulance Association will have their equipment available to view.A Fire Safety or simulated Smoke House from the Tobyhanna Army Depot will be available to demonstrate safe ways to escape a house fire. Pocono Medical Center will check blood pressures and child car seats. The West End Health Care Center will be represented and Exercise with Kids demonstrations by Leslie Glover will be done with the children.
