The cost for students to eat breakfast and lunch in the Northern Lehigh School District will be slightly more next school year.

On a unanimous vote, the school board on Monday approved a 10-cent increase at its two elementary schools, middle school, and high school.At the elementary school level, the cost for students to eat breakfast will raise from $1.25 to $1.35, while lunch will go from $2.35 to $2.45.For middle and high school students, the cost to eat breakfast will go from $1.75 to $1.85, while lunch will go from $2.60 to $2.70.Board actionThe board approved:• The retirement of Dawn Mayer as fifth grade teacher at Slatington Elementary School, effective June 10. Mayer worked for the district 44 years.• The retirement of Marilyn Steckel as third grade teacher at Slatington Elementary School, effective June 30. She is retiring after 27 years of service.• The retirement of Elizabeth Vasquez from her position as primary life skills teacher at Peters Elementary School, effective June 30. She worked 22 years with the district.• The resignation of Heather VanBlargan from her position as lunch room monitor at Slatington Elementary School, effective immediately.• The resignation of Julie Senefeld from her position as lunch room monitor at Slatington Elementary School, effective immediately.• Appointed William Marks as second shift custodian at Slatington Elementary School, replacing Robert Reese, who resigned, at a salary of $9 per hour, from 2:30-11 p.m. five days a week, effective May 10, with a 60-day probationary period ending July 8.• Leslie Bartholomew, Jacqueline Schwartz, and Robert Zweifel as substitute CLIU guest teachers for the 2015-16 school year.• Jamie Bigley, Susanne Hegedus, Janet Hofelich, Kara Richardson, and Diane Saeger, will attend the 2016 Governor's Institute: P-3 Collaboration: Working Together for Student Success, from June 21-23, in Pocono Manor, each with the cost for meals at $99, to be funded from the district's curriculum and instruction budget.• Joseph Tout to attend the University of Pittsburgh: College in High School Orientation, May 17-18, in Pittsburgh, with the cost of lodging, $136, and travel, $305, for a total cost of about $441, to be funded from the district's curriculum and instruction budget.• Sweet, Stevens, Williams & Katz, LLP, as special counsel for the 2016-17 school year. The hourly rate for non-routine matters will be $195 per hour; the rate for routine or general advice will be $150 per hour; and the rate for legal assistance for routine and non-routine matters will be $125 per hour. There is no increase over the previous year's fees.• Sweet, Stevens, Williams & Katz, LLP, as special counsel for the 2016-17 school year for special education consultations and student services. The cost of these services will be $6,300 for the 2016-17 school year, and is part of the Special Education budget. There is no increase over last year's rate.• The co-payment amount for student athletes receiving a sports physical from OAA during the 2016-17 school year at a cost of $10 per student.• Tuition fee of $30 per student for a one-week elementary summer band program, as well as a stipend for summer band program director Steven Jonkman, whose stipend will be equal to the amount collected for student participation, but will not exceed $1,000. The summer band program will run from Aug. 15-19.• Reappointed director Donna Kulp as board treasurer for the 2016-17 fiscal year, effective July 1, 2016, through June 30, 2017.• Announced that Baccalaureate will be held at 7 p.m. June 9 in the high school auditorium.• Announced that high school graduation will be held at 7 p.m. June 10.
