An elderly man was killed in a crash on Route 209 near LaRose's Skating Rink just before 9 this morning.

According to reports at the scene, a work van was heading north on Route 209 when it crossed over the line and struck a Carbon County Transit Authority bus.The bus, which was headed south, was struck just behind the driver's door and pushed into an earthen embankment. A passenger in the back was killed.The driver of the utility van was trapped, and is reported to have serious leg injuries.Franklin Township police are investigating with assistance from state police from the Lehighton and Hazleton barracks.Route 209 was closed for several hours.No other information was available at press time.
