Lansford man pleads guilty to indecent assault on young girl

A Lansford man admitted in Carbon County court to having indecent contact with a young girl.

Patrick J. Kelly, 30, pleaded guilty to one count of indecent assault, as a misdemeanor 2, before Judge Joseph J. Matika. In exchange for the plea, the district attorney's office agreed to drop three felony counts of aggravated indecent assault as well and misdemeanor 1 counts of indecent assault and indecent exposure.Kelly was scheduled to go on trial Monday on all charges. The case took a long path to a plea. There were 29 continuances granted by the court in the course of the case most by defense counsels but not all, as some were also filed by the prosecution.Lansford police charged him on June 6, 2013, with having indecent contact with a then 5-year-old girl at a residence in the borough. Kelly was 27 at the time, police said. The inappropriate contact was reported to the Carbon County office of children and youth. The charge falls under the provisions of Megan's Law. Matika deferred sentencing and ordered Kelly to undergo an evaluation by the state sexual offenders assessment board to determine if he is a sexually violent predator. If it is determined that he is, then he will have to register for life as a sexual offender.Sentencing will occur after the assessment board makes its determination.
