BARRETT TWP. - State and local workers will begin cleaning up after a wildfire destroyed more than 8,000 acres of forestland.
State Department of Conservation and Natural Resources officials said the Sixteen-Mile Fire in Monroe and Pike counties, which they believe was intentionally set April 20, is now fully contained.The Delaware Forest District will spend several weeks cleaning up debris from drainage systems, clearing out hazard trees and restoring damage caused by heavy equipment. Areas made vulnerable to erosion will be seeded for new plants to grow.Travelers through the affected area are advised to drive slowly and watch for heavy equipment and debris.Investigators say arson led to the Sixteen-Mile Fire, as well as the nearby Bear Town Fire on mostly private land. A $10,000 reward is offered for information that leads to an arrest. Call 717-362-1472 with information.
