Schuylkill pays off boiler loan from nursing home

Schuylkill County commissioners have paid off a $140,000 bank loan that bought a new boiler for the former county nursing home in 2008.

"There's been a lease/purchase agreement in place with M&T that had to do with the funding of all the energy improvements the county did back in 2008-2009," said county administrator Mark Scarbinsky.The improvements included new boilers at the prison and at the former county nursing home, Rest Haven.Proceeds from the sale of the nursing home last year to Investment 360 of Lakewood, New Jersey, are being used to pay down the lease/purchase agreement for its boiler, Scarbinsky said.The county put the home, in Schuylkill Haven, up for sale due to increasing costs. Investment 360 bought it for $8 million. The sale was closed Sept. 1, 2015."The $135,000, plus $5,000 for adjustments and fees, is for the payoff of that particular piece of equipment," he said.In other matters Wednesday, the county Salary Board approved an hourly wage of $18.69 for 911 center supervisor Cory Rainis of Shenandoah. Rainis was promoted from telecommunication 3.Commissioners also declared May 1-7 "National Drinking Water Week" in the county.
