Lansford Council names Soberick police chief

Lansford Borough has a police chief for the first time in nearly two years.

Borough Council voted to promote Sgt. Jack Soberick, the department's officer in charge, to chief.

Soberick's salary has not been set. Council still has to approve a contract, according to borough officials.

The vote to appoint Soberick was 3-1. Matthew Walsh, Jared Soto and Colin Jones voted in favor. Council president Martin Ditsky voted against.

Rose Mary Cannon abstained because she is Soberick's mother, and Joe Butrie refused to cast a vote.

Councilman John Turcmanovich, who was the borough's last police chief, was absent.

Soberick has been the officer in charge since 2014, when Turcmanovich retired.
