A new restaurant in the Tamaqua Railroad Station has been granted a liquor license.

On a unanimous vote, borough council on Tuesday approved the transfer of a liquor license from Jones Grill LLC, 550 West Penn Pike, West Penn Township, to the Tamaqua Station Restaurant, 18 N. Railroad St.A hearing was held on the train station liquor license, at which time the applicant, John Ross, owner of Ross Restaurant Enterprise LLC, was on hand.Ross said he plans to open the Tamaqua Station Restaurant in the historic Tamaqua Railroad Station in about three weeks.Most recently, the site was home to Vonz Restaurant for 2½ years before it closed its doors New Year's Eve.Prior to that, it had been known as the Restaurant at the Station, before it closed in December 2012.The depot is an official visitors reception center for the Schuylkill River National Heritage Corridor.
