Lansford Borough Council has called a special meeting to discuss necessary repairs to the borough pool that could keep it closed this season.

Borough officials recently hired a consultant to look into a leak that caused a million-gallon leak from the pool last summer.The consultant, Wade Associates of Harrisburg, will be in attendance at the special meeting at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Lansford Borough Hall.Borough council authorized $8,000 last month to hire Wade to look into the leaky pipes.Councilwoman Rose Mary Cannon, who serves on the borough's recreation board, said that Wade's study will determine whether the pool can be fixed and opened in 2016.Council has limited funds set aside for recreation. Cannon said the repairs might require grant money from the state, but the complicated process of getting the money would probably take until after the pool season is over.News about the pool potentially being closed in 2016 has motivated supporters of the pool to begin an online fundraiser.A "Help keep the Lansford pool open" page went live on GoFundMe.com on Friday. As of Monday morning, the site had raised $520, with more than 150 people sharing it."A lot of us have great summer memories of hanging out at the pool with our friends, working at the concession stand as our first job, and taking our children there to learn to swim and have fun," the organizer of the fundraiser, Krista Knipper, wrote.
