Lehighton man admits to drugs, drunken driving

A Lehighton man pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Tuesday to drug counts and driving under the influence.

Emilio E. Beckett, 21, pleaded to one count each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and DUI. The three counts stem from three separate incidents.Beckett was arrested on June 17, 2014, along Ashtown Road in Mahoning Township when he was stopped for speeding. A cache of marijuana was found in the vehicle. Arresting officer Tyler Meek also detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search revealed a backpack filled with marijuana, a grinder, a box of plastic bags and a scale. The marijuana, estimated to weigh 109 grams, had an estimated street value over $2,000.The second arrest occurred on May 25, 2014, in the area of 685 Kittatinny Road in East Penn Township. State police at Lehighton responded to an accident scene in which Beckett was the driver involved. Beckett was found at a nearby property. A search of the vehicle resulted in marijuana being found.On Sept. 10, 2014, state police stopped Beckett along Route 443 in Mahoning Township for an equipment violation. He was found to be under the influence of marijuana, a controlled substance.President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted the pleas but deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report. Beckett also needs a drug and alcohol evaluation for the DUI count.
