Last month the Pleasant Valley School board lost one of it longtime directors with the death of Charles Hoffman. Thursday evening the board appointed Douglas Wisser to take Hoffman's seat. Wisser was immediately sworn in and took his seat at the beginning of the meeting.

The board was happy that the governor has finally approved a budget that would release funds for the balance of the school year, however, the district's business manager, Susan Famularo, pointed out that with the governor's plan to veto the second part of the House Bill, the district will not see debt reimbursement of approximately $700,000 this year.The board regularly reviews policies which are adopted by the district. Many of these policies are recommended by the Pennsylvania School Board Association. One policy, which was not on the agenda for adoption but was listed for a second reading, was objected to by a number of directors.The policy, "Dating Violence, is a new policy said superintendent, Carol Geary, and was a recommendation from the PSBA. Members of the board are concerned that there needs to be a line drawn between what happens during school hours and what happens outside of the school.Geary agreed to go back to PSBA and get more information on what it is trying to accomplish with the policy.Seventeen district employees have decided to take advantage of the early retirement incentive which was approved by the board in January. Retirements will take effect on the final day of the current school year.
