Weatherly woman killed in Packer Township crash

A two-car crash Monday night in Carbon County has resulted in the death of a Weatherly woman.

Pennsylvania State Police Hazleton said the crash occurred at 8:15 p.m. on Brenkman Drive in Packer Township, when a 2000 Chevy Impala operated by Zeri Douglas Brewer, 20, of Hamburg, was traveling west on Brenkman Drive.

As Brewer attempted to negotiate the curve in the roadway, he lost control of his vehicle, which traveled across the double yellow line into the eastbound lane and into the path of travel of a 2009 GMC Canyon operated by Mary Beth Thamarus, 55, of Weatherly, which was traveling east on Brenkman Drive.

The front of the GMC struck the rear passenger side of the Impala.

After impact, the Impala came to final rest in the east and westbound lanes of Brenkman Drive, while the GMC came to final rest partially on the eastbound lane of Brenkman Drive facing a southeast direction.

Thamarus was pronounced dead at the Lehigh Valley Hazleton General Hospital.

Thamarus was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. Brewer was, and did not sustain any injuries.

Both vehicles had disabling damage.

Assisting state police at the scene were Weatherly Police, Beaver Meadows Police, Citizens Fire Company, and Weatherly Ambulance.
