Sentences were imposed on Thursday in Carbon County court on three defendants who previously entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence. Judge Joseph J. Matika imposed sentences on:
Sierra Lynn Serfass,20, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail. She was arrested on Feb. 28, 2015, along Hemlock Drive by Mahoning Township police. A test showed 0.13 BAC.She was also ordered to pay a fine of $300, license suspended for a year, zero tolerance on drug and alcohol use and render 25 hours of community service.Glen D. Peaboy,45, of Summit Hill, was sentenced to six months in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program - house arrest. He was arrested on March 29, 2015, along Blakeslee Boulevard Drive East by Mahoning Township police. A test showed 0.10 BAC.The first 17 days of the IPP will be with electronic monitoring. He must also pay a fine of $300, license suspended for a year, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 25 hours of community service.George William Karavitch,26, of Glen Lyon, Luzerne County, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail. He was arrested on Dec. 18, 2014, by state police at Pocono along the turnpike. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year and render 25 hours of community service. He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. March 10.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
