Defendants in pending criminal cases entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Tuesday before Judge Joseph J. Matika.
Those entering pleas included:Harry Lee Wilson Jr., 32, of Brooklyn, New York, pleaded to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance - cocaine.He was arrested on June 14, 2014, by Kidder Township police following a traffic stop along Route 534 in Albrightsville. Cocaine and other drug-related items were found in the vehicle.Matika sentenced him to serve nine to one day less 24 months in the county prison, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service. He was given credit for 68 days already spent in jail on the charges.Brandon Joseph Zeigler,24, of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of assault by a prisoner.He was arrested by Nesquehoning police on Aug. 31, 2015, at the county prison. Police were called to the prison by corrections officers for an assault incident. Zeigler admitted assaulting Eric Cardone, another inmate, in his cell, causing injuries that required medical attention.Zeigler is currently serving a sentence in another case.Matika deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office prepare a presentence investigation report.Matthew Vincent Petrucci,33, of Lehighton, and formerly of Lansford, pleaded to one count of identity theft. He was charged by Nesquehoning police with taking money from the bank account of his father without permission on or about April 22, 2015. It was noted that the father did not seek restitution from his son for the $175 taken.Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance imposed for drug and alcohol use, and render 50 hours of community service.Elizabeth Joan Paxson,28, of Chester, pleaded to one count of operating a vehicle without an interlock system.She was arrested on March 15, 2015, by Mahoning Township police during a checkpoint operation along Mill Road. While at the stop police ran a check on her license and learned that she was required to have an interlock system on her vehicle due to previous drunken driving convictions.Matika imposed a fine of $150 and costs.Kristen Marie Eidem,24, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested by Mahoning Township police to the rear of the Tractor Supply building along Blakeslee Boulevard Drive on July 22, 2015. She was a passenger in a vehicle police found parked behind the building and found to have drug paraphernalia. The driver was also charged.Matika placed her on probation for six months and ordered she render 25 hours of community service.Jason Alan Boerner,29, of Plymouth, Luzerne County, pleaded to one count of disorderly conduct as a summary offense. He was arrested on Sept. 28, 2015, by Weatherly police for an incident in the area of 203 Plane St.He took a leaf blower from the victim's property.Matika imposed a fine of $150 and costs.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
