A Carbon County man pleaded guilty on Tuesday to burglary and other counts before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Israel Lozada, 40, of Beaver Meadows, admitted entering a property on Broad Street in the borough on April 18, 2015, and removing items.He was arrested later in the day at his residence, where state police at Hazleton found some of the items taken in the break-in. Police also found drugs in the home along with a firearm he is prohibited from having.Lozada pleaded to one count each of burglary, a felony 1, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal mischief. In exchange for the plea, the district attorney's office dropped another burglary charge along with counts of criminal trespass and possession of a firearm prohibited.Troopers said Lozada smashed two glass doors to enter the J&N service station and removed the cash register tray. Troopers said Lozada returned to the business a short time later and took cartons of cigarettes, all of which were recovered at his home.Lozada told Matika he was stealing to support a heroin habit. He is facing a state prison term, Matika noted.Matika deferred sentencing so Lozada could enter an inpatient rehabilitation program run by the Salvation Army. Lozada was scheduled to be furloughed from the prison on Wednesday to enter the facility. Sentencing will occur after he completes the program.Matika warned Lozada that if he does not complete the program successfully, he faces a long prison term.
