A homeless man was arrested by Tamaqua police on Feb. 25 after officers investigated a suspicious vehicle in the area of the carwash at Washington and Rose streets.
An officer was on patrol at 1 p.m. when he saw a pickup with two men inside parked in the carwash lot, far away from the equipment.The officer checked and identified the driver as a known heroin user. The driver said he and his passenger were just talking. He denied having any drugs on his person but did admit to having several items of drug paraphernalia, including syringes, cut straws and bags with residue.The front seat passenger identified himself as Demier Dubois and provided a birth date. He told the officer he didn't have identification and was actually homeless."Dubois" was searched and officers found 64 blue bags containing a powder that field tested positive for heroin, two white bags marked "Diesel," one empty green bag, two bags of suspected methamphetamine, $260 in cash in one pocket and $98 in cash in another pocket. He also had a Pennsylvania ACCESS card and an identification card for Dominic B. Asquith. He admitted he was Asquith and gave a false name as he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for a parole violation.He was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and providing false identification to law enforcement. Arraigned before duty District Judge James Reilly of Pottsville he was lodged in the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville in lieu of $25,000 straight cash bail.
