PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Costs are rising at three colleges and universities in eastern Pennsylvania.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the University of Pennsylvania announced Thursday its total cost including fees is increasing nearly 4 percent to $66,000.The increase comes after Swarthmore College approved a plan last weekend to increase tuition and room-and-board fees 3.5 percent to nearly $64,000 for the 2016-17 school year.Both schools say there will be significant increases in financial aid available. Both provide financial aid using grants instead of loans in their student aid awards.A 3.5 percent tuition increase is also planned at Villanova University. The total price at that suburban Philadelphia university is set to be more than $62,000.
