Three people were injured in a two-car crash Thursday night in Mahoning Township on Route 209.

Township police Chief Audie Mertz said seven people were involved in the crash, which was reported at 10:48 p.m.Mertz said a 2011 Ford Edge driven by Dylan Saunders, 18, of Jim Thorpe, was traveling northbound on 209. While going through a right-hand curve, he lost control and crossed over into the oncoming lane. He hit a 1995 Jeep Cherokee driven by Lisa Sittler, 48, of Jim Thorpe.The rear passenger in the Ford was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. Five people were in the Ford.Two people were in the Jeep. Sittler and passenger Paulette Haupt, 48, of Jim Thorpe, had minor injuries. One was taken to St. Luke's Hospital-Miner's Campus in Coaldale, and the other to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.Mertz said the crash occurred during slippery road conditions.Saunders was cited for careless driving.The Lehighton Fire Department removed the occupants, while Lehighton and Nesquehoning emergencycrews also assisted.
