Kidder Twp. OKs $60K advance for rescue squad

The Lake Harmony Rescue Squad Ambulance Corp. had sent a letter to the Kidder Township board of supervisors requesting an advance of $75,000 to cover operating costs while waiting for the new Emergency Services Tax revenue to be collected.

"Usually we would be operating from our subscriptions this time of year," said squad President Charlotte Blackwell. "But as you know we have forgone the subscriptions in favor of the emergency services tax, but we don't anticipate receiving the income until sometime in May and we need to make payroll and cover expenses in the meantime."Blackwell's letter requested that the township advance up to $75,000 as needed."We have discussed your request and I am prepared to make a motion to forward the rescue squad $60,000 in a lump sum," said Supervisor Thomas LaFond.LaFond said the township was happy to comply with the request but that they did not want to get into any "accounting" issues and would rather advance the lump sum and then withhold the money when the taxes are collected.LaFond's motion passed. In other business the township voted to forward a donation of $250 to the Schoolhouse Central which operates a community center in the old one-room schoolhouse in Albrightsville. The board also agreed to donate $1,000 to the Penn-Kidder Library Center. Both donations were line items in the 2016 operating budget.Township manager Lisa Klem said for a second month that the trash bills were not sent out as they usually would have been. The person originally contracted to mail the bills was unable to and is reimbursing the township the cost of the postage in an effort to alleviate the burden of having to manually "stuff" the envelopes. The bills will be mailed on Feb. 19 and the due date for payment has been extended to April 15.The township's new Stormwater Committee held its first meeting on Feb. 10.
