4 area residents killed in crashes

Four people were killed in area crashes this weekend.

An Albrightsville man was driving along East White Bear Drive in Summit Hill just after 11 p.m. Sunday when his vehicle struck a utility pole and tree.He was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.Carbon County Coroner Robert Miller said he was not releasing the man's identity at this time because he was still working to notify the man's family.He said the man was young, but didn't provide an age.Two killed on Route 33Two Monroe County residents died and two others were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 9:30 p.m. Saturday on Route 33 in the Borough of Stockertown, Northampton County.The office of Lehigh County Coroner Scott M. Grim identified the deceased as Antoni Alvarado, 20, of 243 Dogwood Lane, Saylorsburg, and Daniel Blazier, 19, of 1424 Pennell Road, Chestnuthill Township, Brodheadsville.Zachary Coleman, 18, of Brodheadsville, and Crystal Vargas, 22, of Albrightsville, were injured.Grim's office said Alvarado was pronounced dead at 3:35 a.m. Sunday.Blazier died a little over three hours later (6:53 a.m.). Both were taken to the St. Luke's University Hospital-Bethlehem.State police at the Belfast barracks are investigating the crash, which happened at mile marker 9.5.Police said both vehicles were traveling south and Vargas' 2005 Honda Civic was ahead of Blazier's 2014 Hyundai Elantra in the right lane of travel. Police said Blazier was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle and it rear-ended the Honda. Police said the impact caused both vehicles to travel off the right side of the roadway and go across the Route 33 on-ramp from Route 191 before landing in a wooded area off the western shoulder of the road.Alvarado and Coleman were passengers in Blazier's vehicle, police said. They said Coleman and Vargas both sustained moderate injuries.Police were assisted at the scene by the Forks Township Fire Department; the Nazareth, Bushkill and Suburban EMS units; and the Troop M Forensic Services Unit.Tobyhanna woman diesAccording to the Lehigh County coroner's office, Geraldine S. Beldo, 54, of Tobyhanna, died Sunday as a results of injuries from a crash on Interstate 80 Saturday.She was pronounced dead at 4:31 a.m. Sunday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. She was the driver of a vehicle that struck a tree.The incident occurred at mile marker 20.3 in Allamuchy Township, New Jersey.The coroner's office and the New Jersey State Police are conducting the investigation.
