The Eldred Township supervisors heard an update from Linda Kile on the West End Food Pantry at Wednesday's meeting.

"We served 116 families this last weekend," Kile said. "We had people lined up outside waiting for food."Kile asked the supervisors to consider giving the food pantry a larger space, in an area close together to serve the pantry's needs. Kile also asked if the township would keep the rent at $200 per month for the larger space.Chairwoman Mary Anne Clausen agreed to consider the request, but wanted to get a new set of policies together for the community center before deciding. The board agreed to allow the pantry to use the space pending a decision they expect to make at the April meeting."When we first purchased that community center we did not have the food pantry in mind," Supervisor Sharon Solt said. "But this is exactly the kind of service to the community that we had in mind."Also present at the meeting was West End Ambulance CEO, C.J. Dickinson."We at the West End Ambulance are also proud and happy about what's going on at the community center, and that is why I am here to present you with this AED device," Dickinson said.Dickinson presented the device to Kile. Dickinson also offered to provide first aid and CPR training to all of the food pantry volunteers free of charge.Kile was in tears as she accepted the automatic defibrillator."You don't know what this means to us," she said.Township emergency manager Gary Hoffman requested approval from the supervisors to begin implementing a "Continuity of Government Plan." The plan would go into effect if there were ever a major catastrophic event which would disrupt local governments' ability to act. Hoffman said that Eldred would be the first township in the area to have such a plan. The supervisors gave him the go ahead to work on the plan.Additionally, Hoffman asked the board for permission to apply for a federal grant from FEMA to clean up the local waterways. The board agreed to this as well.
