Tamaqua to discuss budget

With the state budget still stuck in a holding pattern, Tamaqua Area School District plans to ramp up its own budget discussions.

At the school board's committee meeting on Tuesday, the board agreed to hold preliminary budget discussion at 6 p.m. March 8.The budget discussion will be held before the board's committee meetings that evening.That decision came after district business manager Connie Ligenza polled board members to see if that date worked for them.In other action:• The Finance Committee recommended that the board approve the 2016-17 Schuylkill Technology Center budget.• The Finance Committee took no action on action that would authorize Ligenza to execute a contract with Enernoc for demand response participation.• The Education Committee approved an agreement between the district and the Schuylkill County MH/DS/D&A Program, effective Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2016.• The Education Committee approved Feb. 15 as an elementary-only Act 80 Day. High school and middle school will be a snow makeup day.• The Finance Committee authorized Ligenza to place delinquent real estate taxes from the 2015 collection with Portnoff Law Associates.• The Finance Committee authorized Portnoff Law Associates to schedule the attached list of properties for sheriff's sale.
