A man accused of burning a pile of brush during which the fire spread to a garage waived a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Calvin D. Cederborg, 29, of Oak Street, Summit Hill, was charged by Nesquehoning police with arson (reckless burning), recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief and dangerous burning.The charges stem from an incident which occurred at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 17,at 329 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning.Cederborg, who is free on $50,000, unsecured bail, was scheduled to have a hearing before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford. This was the sixth time a hearing had been scheduled. It was continued the previous five times.The hearing was waived to Carbon County Court for resolution.Cederborg was charged by officer Timothy Wuttke of the Nesquehoning Police Department.The affidavit states that on Aug. 17, he and officer Derek Marouchoc were dispatched to a garage fire to the rear of 333 E. Catawissa St.Wuttke said he was advised at the scene that a man, identified as Cederborg, ran from the scene.According to the affidavit, Cederborg first said he carelessly dropped a lit cigarette into the brush pile, then he blamed another person for igniting the pile of brush.Further investigation revealed that Cederborg lit the fire, Wuttke said.The owners of the garage, Tara and Ralph Gunderson, told Wuttke that the price of a new garage similar to theirs would cost more than $20,000.
