In other business, Nesquehoning council last week:

• Council agreed to install a loading zone during school hours in the unit block of East Garibaldi Avenue in the New Columbus section of Nesquehoning after Cindy Sweeney approached the board to request it so her disabled daughter could safely get on the school bus.• Council President David Hawk reported that the internal investigation of officer Steven Homanko is still ongoing. Last year, council took action to hire outside help for an investigation into the fatal crash involving Homanko in May 2014.• Mayor Sam Kitchko reported that for the month of December, the police department collected $3,004.83; issued 29 citations; had 473 incidents reported and drove 4,525 miles while on patrol.• Councilman George Sabol III commended the borough workers for cleaning up along the creek on Locust Street.• The next Nesquehoning Neighborhood watch meeting will be held at 7 p.m. todayat the borough hall.• Council will send a letter to DEP again requesting a hearing on Panther Creek's permit application to burn tires with the culm; as well as address council's concerns with regards to additional truck traffic and environmental concerns.• A total of 1,618 tons of trash was collected in 2015 in the borough.• The borough recreation commission will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the recreation center. The commission meetings take place on the first Monday in February, April, June, August, October and December. A kiddie bingo is slated for Feb. 14.
