A Lansford girl was flown to a hospital with chest injuries after hitting a fire hydrant while sledding.

The girl was sledding on a borough-owned lot on Abbott Street when she hit the hydrant at the bottom of a hill at about 3:45 p.m., said police officer Shawn Nunemacher."The kids know they aren't supposed to sled there, but they do anyway," Nunemacher said.She was rushed by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale, then flown to another hospital with non-life-threatening chest injuries, he said.
