A Lehighton man admitted to an assault incident involving his stepdaughter on Monday in Carbon County court before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Jerome Franklin Strohl, 41, pleaded to one count each of simple assault and a summary offense of harassment for an incident on July 22, 2015, at 120 Coal St. in Lehighton.Police responded to the home for a report of a domestic incident. On scene officers were told by Strohl's wife, Heather, that he had struck his stepdaughter and also her. She said the daughter and Strohl were arguing and she intervened. The police report said Strohl punched the girl and his wife, but he denied that, stating he slapped the girl. He said his wife struck him first and he responded by attempting to slap her, but missed and struck the girl.Heather Strohl said that it was a slap, not a punch.Strohl said he was having a dispute with the girl over drugs.He told Nanovic, "I'm sorry for what I did. I acted poorly."After discussion with the parties, Nanovic ruled that Strohl could not have any contact with his stepdaughter, and since she will be living with her mother, Strohl could not go to their residence and they could not return to the marital home.Nanovic placed Strohl on probation for two years and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation, pay court costs of about $1,000, no contact with the stepdaughter and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation. On the harassment charge, which is related to the incident with his wife, he was fined $300 and costs.
