Carbon County court - ARDs

Five first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Monday by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program their record is wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete the program, or are revoked from it, they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted.Yusef Abdurraheem,30, of Drexel Hill, Delaware County, was placed for six months on a charge of recklessly endangering another person. He was arrested by state police at Fern Ridge for an incident at the Camp Adams forestry camp for juveniles. He was employed at the camp at the time and allegedly attempted to run down a juvenile client at the camp on Aug. 1, 2015. No one was injured.He was assessed $450 for the cost of the program.Trevor Matthew Roberts,21, of Saylorsburg, was placed on a charge of simple assault. He was arrested on Aug. 8, 2015, by Lehighton police for an incident in the area of 211 N. Main Lane, with Brent Mertz the listed victim.He was assessed $450 and ordered to pay restitution for medical expenses and other costs in an amount to be determined by the adult probation office.Daniel Bonaventura,51, of Berwick, Columbia County, was placed on a charge of driving under the influence. He was arrested on July 3, 2015, along Delaware Avenue in Palmerton by state police at Lehighton. A test showed 0.11 BAC.He was assessed $500 and his license was suspended for 30 days.Candace Nicole Pearson,30, of Allentown, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on Feb 25, 2015, by state police at Lehighton along Route 248 at Bowmanstown. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.She was assessed $600 and her license was suspended for 60 days.David Alan Smith Jr.,22, of Coopersburg, Lehigh County, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on July 19, 2015, at Beltzville State Park in Franklin Township by park rangers. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 and license suspended for 60 days.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee. Each DUI defendant must also follow the recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
