• Council said it is looking for a few good men - or women - to fill some board vacancies. They include two seats on the planning commission, two seats on the zoning hearing board, one seat on the appeals board, and one seat on the Civil Service Commission.Interested parties can apply through borough secretary Kira Steber.• Council member David Wargo is looking into a state program in which the borough might be able to borrow surveillance cameras to use where illegal dumping is occurring.Summit Hill Chief of Police Joe Fittos said the biggest illegal dumping areas are the borough's cemeteries.• Council was given a sample of an ordinance addressing issues that arise from structure fires. The ordinance would require property owners to place some insurance proceeds in escrow following a fire. The money would stay in escrow until the damaged building was repaired or demolished.• Wargo is hoping to start a Crime Watch program in Summit Hill. He said he is working with Mayor Paul McArdle on the project.He noted recent incidents where tires were slashed on several vehicles this past weekend and the recent armed robbery of a mini mart has convinced him there is a need.Fittos said more property owners are installing cameras and this is proving a deterrent to crime.• Police officer Brian Horos was given permission to attend an Advanced Media Relations for Law Enforcement course on March 22 and 23. The course is sponsored by the Joint Terrorism Task Force.Fittos said Horos will then be designated the public information officer for the police department.• Wargo said he and council member Karen Ruzicka are working on completing a codification project in the borough.
