Lehighton plans to advertise an amendment to its garbage ordinance that would bump up the time of day trash is put out for collection.

Borough council on Monday unanimously agreed to advertise the change to its recently approved ordinance, which if approved, would call for trash to be put out by noon the day before pickup.Council's action came after it heard from Mayor Tom Mase, who suggested the change. At present, garbage pickup is to be put out after 6 p.m. per the ordinance.Councilman Darryl Arner said he was in favor of the change.Township solicitor Jim Nanovic said the borough would need to advertise the change.Borough secretary Brenda Koons said after the meeting that the action was taken for the health and safety of residents.In the interim, Koons said residents should continue to follow the current ordinance to the best of their ability.Council in December approved a new five-year garbage/recycling contract with County Waste of Pennsylvania LLC, which began performing its services Jan. 8.Until the ordinance is amended, weekly garbage pickup will remain the same, put out after 6 p.m. the day before pickup.In other action, council:• Granted conditional approval on the Jim Thorpe River Adventures lot consolidation plan based on the conditions set forth in the review letter dated Dec. 8.The consolidation plan is for a final minor subdivision for Jim Thorpe River Sports on Lehigh Drive. Council had granted conditional approval based on the review letter of Bruce Steigerwalt for the Planning Commission. There were eight conditions to be met regarding changes on the plans.• Agreed to have the old pad mounted transformer relocated. The borough is working with the school district on the relocation of the transformer, as the borough is installing the electrical service for the stadium project, and a new transformer needed to be ordered.
