Carbon County is in need of radiological experts.

Last week the county commissioners approved the Local Emergency Planning Committee's appointment of Charles Boyle of Summit Hill as a county EOC and radiological volunteer staff member.Commissioners' Chairman Wayne Nothstein said that the position is one area the county emergency response team is really lacking in because of the qualifications and was thankful Boyle is giving back to the county by providing his expertise, which he gained through his employment.Radiological volunteer staff are called to emergencies that involve the possibility of radioactive materials. They monitor the situation and help determine how to resolve the situation.Nothstein said that right now, there are only two other people besides Boyle on that list who are qualified to do this work.Commissioner William O'Gurek commended Boyle on volunteering."Mr. Boyle is a brilliant individual who worked in the business and will do a good job," O'Gurek said, noting that Boyle retired from his post and approached the county because he wanted to give back to the community.In a related matter, the commissioners approved LEPC's purchase of a 2016 training membership program contract with Bucks County Community College. The contract calls for a block of 200 training hours at a cost of $1,000.Nothstein said that the LEPC purchases the training block through Bucks County through a grant. These trainings then are provided to county emergency responders in various fields for necessary certifications.Other businessThe commissioners also acted on a number of personnel moves, including:• Accept the resignation of Patricia A.
