Fighting for an on-street parking spot near your house can be a chore for residents in almost any borough during fair weather.

Throw in over a foot of snow and the task can become a nightmare.Residents in several Carbon County towns reported mixed experiences Sunday morning with not only the efforts of local municipal road crews, but also courtesy of their neighbors."We have a great system in Summit Hill if everyone abides by it," said Julianne Vanko O'Gorman. "The south side is already cleared on my block (East Holland Street). And we don't take each other's parking spaces on the block either. It's called consideration."A plow passed through many downtown Lehighton parking spots at least four times before noon on Sunday, according to resident Heather Bolton."It's looking pretty decent," she said.Many Lehighton residents were out Sunday afternoon clearing off cars, sidewalks and parking spots where snow hadn't been plowed.Travis Ware said he spent over an hour clearing several parking spots for his aunt and her neighbor along South Fourth Street."I think a lot of the residents are pretty respectful and if you work that hard to free up a spot, someone's not going to just come in and swipe it if you head out to the store or something," he said. "Maybe I'm giving folks too much credit, but I think there are still some decent people left, especially in a small community."Road conditions in Weatherly Borough also received a rave review."It's my first year living there," said Helena Barker. "I'm very impressed and happy."Things weren't as calm for Nesquehoning and Tamaqua residents.Desirae Burger described the roads in Nesquehoning as a "mess" while she dug her car out Saturday."We had to shovel out two spots," Burger said. "Can't afford a ticket, however if they aren't clearing near the curbs we shouldn't have to be moving."Elsewhere in Nesquehoning, A.J. Everett said the odd side of Catawissa Street was never plowed Saturday.Fellow resident Kelly Marie Mead added, "you can't park anywhere in Nesquehoning."Meanwhile in Tamaqua, Sharon Craigle had trouble finding space to leave her residence."When you park out back of my house, the plows and people with snowblowers find it necessary to plow you in," she said.Lansford Borough announced it would not be plowing streets Sunday because the borough vehicles are being serviced.The street department will work to widen intersections and travel lanes where possible on Monday.
