A Carbon County woman was sentenced to a county prison term on Thursday on a charge of bringing drugs into the prison.

Dana Marie McFadden, 23, of Summit Hill, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve six to one day less 24 months in prison followed by one year of probation. She previously pleaded guilty to the charge.She was arrested by Nesquehoning police on Feb. 24, 2015, when they were called to the county prison by corrections officers concerning several female inmates being given illegal substances. McFadden was one of those inmates.McFadden declined an offer by Matika to defer sentencing so she could seek placement in an inpatient rehabilitation facility. She admitted to a long-term drug addiction problem.Matika noted that McFadden was an "A" student while in high school, enrolled at Temple University, where she was doing well, only to drop out when she began using illegal substances. McFadden spent 90 days in an inpatient program in Maine and was in and out of other facilities in short term treatment.Matika told McFadden, "You need to get help." That was when he made the offer after hearing from her father that he would help her find a rehab facility.McFadden declined, "I just want to get this over with. I just want to put this behind me and go on with my life."In addition to the prison term Matika ordered her to render 75 hours of community service when released on parole, supply a DNA sample, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, zero tolerance on drug and alcohol use, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and probation.Matika warned her that if the drug and alcohol evaluation recommended inpatient treatment and she fails to comply, it would be a violation of her parole/probation and she would be brought back and probably spend more time in jail.
