Man sentenced to prison on drug count

A former Carbon County man, who previously was placed in a special state program for persons with drug addiction problems, but was kicked out of it, was resentenced Thursday in the county court to a state prison term.

Marco Baker, 28, formerly of Lansford and now of Scranton, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve 15 to 30 months in a state correctional institution. On Sept. 26, 2013, Baker was placed in the state's Intermediate Punishment program by Matika. The program called for him to serve time in a state prison, then enter a state-run inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, followed by a period of time in a pre-release program at a halfway house.Matika said Baker was "kicked out" of the program for violating conditions. At the time of the placement in the program Matika told Baker if he failed to complete it he would be brought back and resentenced. Baker was placed in the state program on a criminal conspiracy-burglary charge. He admitted to his part in a break-in on Feb. 29, 2015, at 17 N. Walnut St., Lansford. In addition to the jail term, Matika ordered Baker to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance imposed on drug and alcohol use, supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of about $1,000, make restitution of $2,904.76 and have no contact with the victim of the break-in.He was given credit for 219 days spent in prison on the charge.
