Members of the Palmerton Chamber of Commerce honored a longtime volunteer at the monthly luncheon.

"I don't know any communities that can function without the volunteers. This man is the quintessential volunteer," said Peter Kern, president of the Palmerton Chamber. George Ashman turned 90 on Jan. 11."We wish him a very happy birthday and many happy returns."Ashman still regularly organizes the Bloodmobile in Palmerton. He announced early in the luncheon that the next Bloodmobile will be on March 23.Kern surprised Ashman with a gift and an ice cream cake, which he brought out with two candles on it for Ashman to blow out.Smiling from ear to ear, Ashman responded, "It's good you didn't put on 90 candles."He easily blew out the two.
