The Carbon County coroner's department is seeing some big changes since Robert Miller took over the position on Jan. 4, including a change in the chief deputy coroner position, changing staff and abolishing four positions.

Last week, the county commissioners' approved a number of personnel moves in that department.They included:• Approving the change of status of James C. Hauser Sr. of Lehighton from chief deputy coroner to deputy coroner, retroactive to Jan. 4.• Approving the change of status of Gerald D. Jones Jr. of White Haven from deputy coroner to chief deputy coroner, retroactive to Jan. 4.• Approving Miller's appointments of Kelly Janner of Nesquehoning, Donna Kemmerle of Lehighton, Paul Lech of Weatherly and Carole Leslie of Lehighton to deputy coroners, effective Jan. 18.• Approving the employment separations of Robert Starosta of Nesquehoning and Kevin M. Steber of Summit Hill as deputy coroners, effective Jan. 4.• Approving the change of status of Bruce Nalesnik, who served as the Carbon County coroner until Dec. 31 after not seeking re-election for another term, to deputy coroner, retroactive to Jan. 4.• Approving the change of status of Mark S. Nalesnik of Lansford from EMA coordinator and deputy coroner to EMA coordinator, retroactive to Jan. 4.• Accepting the change of status of Robert J. Blisard of Albrightsville from deputy sheriff and deputy coroner to deputy sheriff, retroactive to Jan. 4.Earlier this month, the county salary board approved Miller's request to abolish four deputy coroner positions, bringing the number of deputy coroners in the county who can respond to an emergency when a coroner is needed to 16, not including the chief deputy coroner.Deputy coroners are paid $75 per investigation.Other mattersThe commissioners also acted on a number of additional personnel items in various departments throughout the county. They included:• Accepting the retirement of Michael R. Hydock of Freeland as a domestic relations officer II, effective March 11.• Accepting the resignation of Patrick D. Matsinko of Lehighton as part-time victim/witness coordinator in the district attorney's office, effective Jan. 5.• Accepting the resignation of Matthew F. Miller of Palmerton as a 911 operator in the communications center, effective Jan. 28.• Accepting the resignation of Glenn C. Wagner of Lansford as a seasonal park ranger II, parks, effective Jan. 6.• Hiring Sarah E. Bonner of Nesquehoning as a part-time cleaning person for buildings and grounds, effective Jan. 18.• Hiring William B. Maurer of Jim Thorpe as a part-time maintenance person for buildings and grounds, effective Jan. 18.• Hiring Michael P. Gough of Easton as a temporary assistant public defender in the public defender's office, effective Jan. 18.• Approving the district attorney appointment of Nancy A. Juracka of Jim Thorpe as part-time victim/witness coordinator, effective Jan. 14.• Approving the leave of absence of Ann Marie Bossard of Palmerton, part-time cleaning person, from Jan. 5 to Jan. 24.
