A Carbon County woman entered a guilty plea to simple assault Thursday in the county court. She was one of three defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a plea before Judge Steven R. Serfass.

Franklin incidentMelissa A. Peters,29, of Lehighton, also pleaded to a charge of persistent disorderly conduct in another pending matter. Peters was arrested on Jan. 5, 2015, for assaulting a man at a home on Long Run Road, in Franklin Township. Township police responded to the residence for a report of a disturbance.Peters had pushed the man to the ground and attempted to strike him with an object, not identified in the police report. The conduct incident occurred on March 13, 2015, at Diggity Dogs & More, in Lehighton.Police were attempting to serve a warrant on Peters when she fled but was later apprehended. A charge of flight to avoid apprehension was dropped in a plea bargain.On the assault count Serfass sentenced her to serve one to one day less 24 months in prison and one year probation on the conduct charge, running concurrently. She was given credit for 44 days already spent in jail on the charges and paroled.She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment and render a total of 150 hours of community service.Other pleasOther defendants entering pleas included:Shane James Perschy,40, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of criminal mischief. He was charged by Palmerton police with damaging a laptop belonging to his ex-girlfriend on Oct. 10, 2015, at 714 First St.Sentencing was deferred until a restitution figure could be obtained from the victim.Celestino Valentine Arvelo,40, of Lehighton, pleaded to a summary offense of improper sun screening on a vehicle. A charge of possession of marijuana was dropped in a plea bargain.He was arrested on May 6, 2015, along Susquehanna Street by Jim Thorpe police.Serfass imposed a fine of $25 and costs.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
