Walnutport Mayor Wayne Weidner swore in the newest board member, Nancy Treskot, Thursday night during the monthly borough council meeting.

Treskot was appointed by the board for a two-year term to replace former borough Vice President Michael Gaston.According to borough secretary/treasurer Annette Lacko, Gaston submitted a letter of resignation immediately before the reorganization meeting earlier this month.Lacko said Gaston did not go into to detail about why he resigned, only that he sent the letter, leaving Harold Green to fill the vice president role on the board.The board will be organized into new committees before the next meeting. President Matthew Newhard asked board members to let him know which areas they would be most interested working in.Treskot, a 40-year resident of the borough, sent the only letter of interest. She is currently the president of the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce.In her letter she wrote that she hoped to be a fresh voice on the board."I'm trying to give back to the community," she said.Treskot will have to run for election in 2018.
